Irish tinkerings
The Northern Ireland government recently issued a consultation document, asking for comments on a set of measures it came up with for tinkering with the commercial rating system. The aim is to boost the economy. “Concessions” are being suggested, to run from 2012 to 2015. Unsurprisingly, most of them would be ineffective. Some would be counter-productive. And what happens when the time comes to withdraw the concessions?
When politiicans and civil servants are working from a body of unsound theory, this is all that can be expected.
